Different Types of Diffusion in Today's Society
Relocation

When people or groups migrate to a new location, they bring their ideas and culture with them to that new place.
An example of relocation today would be Mexican food bought to the United States by Mexican immigrants. I enjoy Mexican food!

Hierarchical
![Picture](/uploads/1/6/4/3/16433798/627327651.jpg?119)
When ideas bounce from one important person to another, or from one urban area to another urban area. An example of hierarchical diffusion would be subway systems in cities. Subways are an important mode of transportation for all urban citizens. I have riden the subway!
Contagious
![Picture](/uploads/1/6/4/3/16433798/667211172.jpg)
An idea spreads throughout a country or countries, in a manner similar to that of a a disease. An example of this today would be the Harry Potter craze. I have read the books, but I do not consider my self a fan!
Stimulus
![Picture](/uploads/1/6/4/3/16433798/365515401.jpg)
Stimulus diffusion occurs when the specific movement is rejected, but people do incorporate the general idea of a movement. An example of stimulus diffusion would be a bean farmer getting the idea of crop roation from a corn farmer. He would not use corn in roation, but instead beans.
Time-Distance Decay
![Picture](/uploads/1/6/4/3/16433798/526484172.jpg)
The acceptance of a movment decreases with time and distance away from the epicenter of the movement. An example of this would be high-fashion decaying over time and distance before it reaches a small farm in Idaho. <http://fashionbelle.com/fashion-careers/comparing-rural-areas-to-big-cities-for-fashion-business-locations>
Absorbing barriers
![Picture](/uploads/1/6/4/3/16433798/254622981.jpg)
The complete rejection of the movement; it is absorbed by the barrier. An example of this would be the cesnorship of communitst governments. http://econc10.bu.edu/economic_systems/NatIdentity/EE/Poland/censorsh.html
Permeable barrier
![Picture](/uploads/1/6/4/3/16433798/402470421.jpg)
The acceptance of some parts of the diffusion, but some unwanted characterisitcs of the movment are rejected. An example of this would be a modern household. Parents regulate what their children are and are not exposed to.
