The religion of Christianity began with the life of Jesus. Jesus lived his life doing miracles and influencing the people of his time. Jesus Christ, the son of God, is both man and divine. He died on the cross to save all people from their sins. In the 1500s, a major rift in the Catholic church occurred. The Protestant Reformation began when Martin Luther posted his 95 theses, complaints about the corruptions within the church. This began a series of many different separations in the Church, leading to many, many denominations. Christianity was spread throughout the world by those spreading the good news or even those who may just thrust their christanity upon others. The head of the Catholic church is the pope but no other denomination as a specific leader.
